I had the great opportunity to sit down with Tim Socha, the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Washington. Coach Socha has been instrumental in the success that Boise State experienced during his time there–an impressive number of NFL athletes.
I had to find out how this happened, when other well-known Universities in the Pac-12 had recruiting classes ranking higher each year, throughout that time. Coach Socha helped me to understand that the answer lay within the Strength and Conditioning program. When new players entered into the program at Boise State, they would show significant improvement in all physical capabilities–speed, strength, conditioning and mobility. The same could not be said for the other Universities.
Urban Meyer, Head Coach at Ohio State University, says that “…the Strength and Conditioning Coach is the most important coach on staff.” The reasoning being, is that he prepares athletes to be stronger and faster, while simultaneously reducing the risk of injuries. If the Strength Coach fails to do their job, the other coaches are not getting the the best out of athletes during the season.
A great deal was learned during our meeting, and we are very excited to bring it to our clients. Coach Socha is an amazing new addition to the UW Athletic program–welcome to Seattle!
Sincerely,
Donny Mateaki and the DM Athletics Team
