Enjoy the Process

We live in a society where everyone wants what they want, now. We have stores, restaurants, and a variety of businesses open 24 hours a day. With the internet, you can have access to virtually anything, at any time. This is great for when we are in an emergency and need things like a doctor, food or water. For other things, such as winning a championship, or doing your personal best in a certain activity or field of work, we must face the realization that it takes time and commitment to accomplish. Most of us, myself included, have a tendency to become impatient, because we want it to happen now. We have been conditioned to believe that we can have what we want, when we want. There is a saying that you do not get what you want–but what you deserve.

I can remember back to when I first began training. I wanted to be stronger and faster, as a means of becoming a better athlete, and also more confident. To begin, I started weight training and running with my team. In all honesty, I didn’t like it. There were girls in the gym that were stronger than me. I took that pretty hard. My goal was to be like my cousin–an all-state football player and eventual pro athlete, who could bench over 400lbs and squat over 600lbs in high school. Persistence kept me going, and I just did my best in every lift, every day.

Something amazing happened after the first month. I started seeing results. They were small at first, but it was enough to get me excited. I decided from that point that I needed to invest more time if I wanted a greater return. That was the right move. It got to a point where I was spending three hours a day in the gym, and it didn’t feel like work at all. In fact, it began feeling like time was flying by. The reason? I was having fun and enjoying the process. Over the course of a couple years I became stronger and faster than I had ever imagined–and that as well, was just part of the process. My happiness didn’t necessarily spike when I reached those goals, because the process of training is what I fell in love with, throughout that time.

We each have our stories of how we fell in love with what we do, or perhaps a significant other. Sometimes we forget how much time we invested in to those things, which have brought us to where we are today. We must remember that anything worth having deserves time and commitment. We stress this point with our athletes, as some have been led to believe that they only need to do a few key things to obtain their goals, and once they have been reached, it is time to stop. To reach your full potential in any area (athletics included), you must enjoy the process of getting there.

Let us help you make this process fun and exciting–a process where you see results month after month. Contact us now, and take your game to the next level!

Sincerely,

Donny Mateaki
