Accomplishing goals are extremely rewarding and gratifying. There are several ways to accomplish your goals and we want to go over a couple that we use to help our athletes achieve their goals. First of all we ask what goals are they trying to accomplish. We write it down and then come up with a plan to help our athletes get there. What we have notice from our athletes and ourselves is that we sometimes get so focused on achieving the goal that the everyday mundane things we need to do, get over looked because we are focused on our goal. The focus we need for the daily training and building to achieve those goals is not where it needs to be so the execution of the small building blocks never get done and the goal is never accomplished.
How can we stay focused on the small mundane, everyday things that need to get done?
You should only look at your goal every so often, like once or twice a month to make sure you are on track. For some people, seeing your goals daily even multiple times a day is extremely powerful. Others, it creates stress because people start realizing how far away they are from their goal. You need to figure out which one works best for you and do that. A good indicator is if looking at your goals daily makes you feel uneasy, try the other way.
Next, focus on what you need to do daily in order to get to your goal. Write down the three most important things that you need to do to move forward for the day and all your other to do’s for the day under the top three. Finish the top three things first then move on to the rest of your list. Keep looking at your list throughout the day until it is all done. You might not get everything done but that is alright. As long as you finished the most important things for the day, you are moving forward. These little things that you accomplish everyday will give you the best chance to eventually achieve your big goals.
Some of you might think this is too easy and yes it is. It is so easy most people do not do it and end up at the end of their lives wishing they would have focused on accomplishing their goals more. Once the shift to the daily mundane things is complete and you check in once a month to make sure you are on track, it is only a matter of time before your goal is accomplished.
Happy Holidays,
