I just got done reading Extreme Ownership by two Navy Seals (Leif Babin & Jacko Willink). In the book they talk about how in order for a team to operate at its highest level, the leaders have to take responsibility for everything that happens, especially the failures. Their point is that only when you take full responsibility for any situation, you will then be able to make the necessary adjustments in order to improve your situation.
Taking responsibility also sets the tone within your team so they will follow it. If you blame others or fate on your results, so will your team. With taking ownership of any situation you will have the power to change the outcome. If you do not take responsibility, you are left with accepting whatever happens to you and your team.
Another thing that happens when you team knows you will accept the responsibility is that they are freed to be creative without the fear of being blamed if something does not go right. This is huge because study after study confirms that people that work under stressful situations do not perform as well as people who do not. The stress of meeting a deadline or achieving a goal are great but the stress of losing your job or being blamed for the negative outcome is not.
The main key take away is that we need to take full responsibility for everything in our lives; our health, fitness, finances, performance and relationships. We can help you achieve your fitness and performance goals, especially when you take extreme ownership of these areas. Contact us now and take action!
Sincerely,
Donny Mateaki
