Organization

In previous blogs, we have shared that around 75% of an athlete’s performance, is due to their mental state. With that in mind, its probably best to figure out some ways in which we can get our minds to function at their highest level.

Accordingly to Daniel Levitin in The Organized Mind, the mind functions at it’s best when the things in our lives are organized.  He gives scientific evidence on how information flows in the brain.  The science shows that if our belongings are cluttered or unorganized, that our brains start to actually work slower and function at a lower capacity.

This information is very important to all people–but especially athletes, as their state of mind has such a big effect on their game performance.  In athletics, it is just a split second that separates the good from the great.  In golf, the number one player at the US Open was separated from the tenth place finisher by less than ten strokes.  There is only four tenths of a second between the fastest 100 meters world record than the tenth fastest.  In football, the best quarterbacks are not typically the most athletic.  They are the guys that can think clearly under pressure.  Russell Wilson, Payton Manning, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers compared to very athletic quarter backs like Michael Vick, Robert Griffin III, Vince Young, and JaMarcus Russell, are proven to perform better in the long run.  The more athletic quarterbacks tend to rely on athleticism and do not put in the work to study as much as the others do. It is important to utilize every effective method of performance enhancement, and keeping our lives organized will directly play a role on our performance
