Everything Matters

When improving your performance, there are certain things which can help. Within the real of sports, there are several different components.  There is the sport itself, technique work to specialize in a sport, the training to help improve conditioning, speed, strength and diet.  Some people stress certain aspects more than others, while in reality, everything matters.

Regardless of the sport you play, it is important to first play, and second practice.  Practice is where you work on skills, plays, and mastering the sport.  Time needs to be invested, or you will limit the level of your performance.  To become really good at anything, you must practice.  The more repetitions you take, and the better coaching you receive, will typically determine a better outcome, come live competition.  For those who are just learning a sport, it is crucial that they practice.

Some athletes engage in one on one lessons with a coach, so they can get more specific feedback and attention.  It is similar to individual tutoring for students.  The coach can give specific instruction as it pertains to that one athlete, and in most cases help the athlete improve at a faster pace.  The key to getting the highest benefit from this, is to find the best coach you can, who will individualize things for you–not just give you the exact same training schedule as they have given everyone else.  Coaches that can change up the training to meet the athletes needs, are typically the best to seek.

Training is important as well.  In training you prepare the body to be faster, stronger and in better shape to help you with the physical aspect of athletics.  In this setting as well, it is always best to find coaches that can individualize your program to help you reach your athletic goals.  It is no secret that the best athletes in any sport are usually faster, stronger and in better shape than the competition.  Some athletes get away without training in this area during their high school years–but once hitting college and beyond, it is something that cannot and should not be ignored. No program in the country neglects this aspect, because the results give athletes their edge.

Another critical factor is nutrition.  It is extremely important to monitor what is put in your body if you are interested in competing at your highest level.  When you are pushing your body to the extreme, foods such as fast food, junk food and soda are going to work against you.  Your body needs not only calories, but the healthiest foods perform and recover.  Many young athletes do not pay attention to this.  However, the older you become this aspect becomes more integral.

Many will try and do a couple of things to improve their athleticism, but very few will actually do everything.  I am often asked, “What is the most important thing for my son or daughter to do?” I cannot tell people which one thing will bring the most benefits for their athlete, but I do know that it all matters.  With each athlete being unique, different things will affect them in different ways.    The best thing you can do is to work as hard as possible in all things.  Contact us now, and we will put the best plan in place to help you take your game to the next level!
