“Success Isn’t Owned, It’s Leased And Rent is Due Everyday!” J.J. Watt
In sports at every level most athletes think they work hard. They are doing more than the people who do not do anything active and stay home all day, but how can we define hard work? If we are not aware of how hard our competition or the guys at the highest level are working, we only can base our assumption on what we have experienced or seen. I know this because I used to think I worked hard—and that might be true to some extent—but not when I match my level of effort up against one of the best, and I argue the hardest working, athlete in sports today.
Below is some footage of JJ Watt putting in extra work after he has gone through two practices, a workout, and conditioning:
After watching this and other training footage of JJ Watt, there is no question in my mind that I do not work hard enough now or have at any point in my life. Now I know the standard, I strive to meet it daily. You cannot do something you haven’t experienced or do not know.
I hope that this will inspire you to be more focused and work harder than before you came across this video.
When asked by the media how being teased by his teammates for not having drinks after practice, a girl friend or any kind of life outside of football, this is what JJ said:
“I have a limited amount of time to build a career out of football and be the best that I can be at this job. When this job is over, I have the rest of my life to do what I want with my time… Right now, I am a football player and I will sacrifice whatever is necessary to be the best!”
There is nothing more powerful than when someone commits their whole life to their purpose. JJ Watt doesn’t drink alcohol, party and only recently started a relationship with a significant other. He focuses all his energy into becoming the best player and athlete he can be. This is extremely rare to see in any profession, but in most cases the people who are willing to make that kind of sacrifice are successful.
Action Steps:
1. Be honest and write down if you work hard or not based on what you have seen
2. Where can you be more focused? Write it down!
3. Write a list of what you can cut out of your life so you can put more energy towards your goal. Exam. Cut out an hour of TV, parties, alcohol, Facebook, other social media, etc…
4. Then when you have your list just cut out the most time consuming activity that doesn’t work towards your goals. After you get use to not doing that activity cut something else out.
You want to take small steps to getting completely focused on your goal. If you cut too much out at once, it is highly likely you will return to the same old habits and creating the same results you have seen in your life thus far. Keep focused on just taking the next step. Your goal is getting closer with each step.
Sincerely,
Donny Mateaki
