To achieve your full potential, you must go above and beyond what the rest of your competition is doing. I love studying great athletes, coaches and high achievers, as it helps me to determine what set them apart from everyone else. There are many contributing factors, but one that I find consistent in everyone from Michael Jordan to John Wooden, is that they put in more time making themselves better than their competition.
For example, Michael Jordan would work out and do leg workouts during the season. This was during the time that his competitors (and even teammates) would rest and wait for the game. John Wooden required his staff to participate in a three hour planning meeting, prior to each daily practice. They would examine what worked and what did not–always trying to get feedback in terms of how they could improve.
Jim Rhon once said, “Success is not something that comes from the outside; success is something that comes from within. That is why you must work harder on improving yourself than at work.”
This is exactly why training is so critical to achieving your full potential in athletics. There is not one athlete that has achieved greatness without a training regimen. Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Pele, Barry Sanders and so on. Not only did they have a great training regimen, but it was approached with commitment, determination and discipline. Some of these athletes did not even like training but knew it was necessary to achieve the result they were after.
It boggles my mind when I meet athletes, who have fed into the lie that this is unimportant–especially when they have goals of playing at the collegiate or professional level. Even if one plays purely for fun, why not invest into being your best–offering you the best experience possible? The thought process I mostly come across is that some people think they need to play more of the sport to improve. Playing more is good but improving speed, agility, strength and vertical are all things that will help improve performance and cannot be obtained by merely playing more of the sport.
Take the time and invest in a program that is proven to get you results, while continuing to play your sport. Contact us now and let us help you take your game to the next level!
