Improve Everything

In most cases, when we seek the answer as to how a team is able to win year in and year out, we tend to think that there is one factor that rises above the rest, for the success. When legendary Coach John Wooden was asked about the one thing he could attribute his successes to, he said “There is not one thing that I could attribute our success to, but we kept making improvements in every area we could.”

John Wooden is considered to be the best coach ever. He guided the UCLA men’s basketball team to ten national championships in twelve years. Not only did his athletes have success on the court but more than 80% of his players went on to be extremely successful in their professional careers as well. Pete Carroll implemented many of Wooden’s principles and has the Seahawks performing more consistently and better than ever.

His statement was eye opening to me. I have always looked for the one thing that would make the difference in the results we seek for our athletes. Instead, we see that it is important to constantly be evaluating everything we are doing–finding out how we can improve in each and every area.

How can we communicate better? Coach better? Achieve better results? Run our training sessions better? Create a better environment for those who are training in our gym? When all of these areas are constantly being evaluated, we will find that we are always moving forward, toward better results for our athletes. Not only should we be asking these questions of ourselves, but athletes must ask these questions as well.

How can you improve your athletic experience? How can you be better for your team? How can you be better for your coach? You can study your opponent more, be early to practice, eat a healthy diet, maintain a high water intake, and work as hard as you possibly can. You want to focus on the things you have control of, and remove additional attention from the things that out of your control.

One of the biggest things you can do to improve your performance is to work with a professional, to improve your speed, agility and performance. Your chances of achieving your athletic goals are ninety percent higher, when you work with a coach one on one, or in a small group setting. Do not let yourself wonder how you would have performed, had you worked with a sports performance specialist. Improve in each and every area, and do what you can to control what is within your reach. Contact us now, and let us help you take your game to the next level.

Sincerely,

Donny Mateaki
