Acheiving Greatness in Team Sports

It was a great Seahawk win, last Monday night against the Washington Redskins.  I was impressed by how Ray Lewis described what it takes to be a great defense.  After highlighting parts of the game where the Redskins failed to do so, he then pointed out how he and his teammates executed well, by communicating properly.  It is a simple thing that can sometimes be completely overlooked. Its importance is magnified when things break down, or fail to work.

Most people have played a sport, been on some kind of team, or have been in a relationship.  When communication breaks down, the number of mistakes increases dramatically.  In terms of sports, if everyone is not on the same page, the other team exposes it.  In business, it could be the inability of different departments or people not communicating that leads to lost sales or loss of market share.  For relationships, it is vital to communicate in order to keep the relationship moving forward.

Ray Lewis went on to describe how players become so focused on their own responsibilities, that they lose track of how it effects everyone else on the team.  He highlighted several parts of the game where two people on the Redskins were covering one person, and the Seahawks made them pay for that mistake.

We have experienced the same thing in training athletes.  Communication is key to guaranteeing that they are getting results from their training, and that we are collectively heading in the right direction.  Our athletes let us know if something is in pain so we can then research the best avenues to help and program their training, to work around the problem.  With this constant communication back and forth, we are able to achieve amazing results.  Contact us now to take your game to the next level.

Sincerely,

Donny Mateaki
