Hydration

The overwhelming majority of people do not drink enough water.  Studies have stated that up to 75% of Americans are not drinking the recommended amount, and are considered chronically dehydrated. That can result in headaches, fatigue, constipation, dry skin, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness, decreased activity (in children), and poor performance (in athletes).  These are just a few symptoms of mild dehydration, as severe dehydration will cause more extreme effects on the body.

The first step in the process of performing at your highest level and gaining the level of fitness you desire, is to hydrate yourself appropriately.  According to the Institute of Medicine, we are to have at least ten glasses of water a day.  This is based on an eight ounce cup which will be eighty ounces throughout the day.  A rule of thumb we tend to use, is to consume half of your body weight in ounces.  That is the number of ounces you should aim to consume daily. Using this formula, it’s easy to see that someone that weighs 300 pounds or more will need a lot more than ten cups of water a day–just as someone who is eighty pounds or less, will not need ten cups.

Our bodies are composed of 60- 75% water.  It only makes sense that we consume more water than any other liquid.  The main source of calories (for Americans), comes from soda.  As a country, we buy and drink more soda than water.  Soda does not hydrate or assist your body in functioning optimally.  This plays a huge role in the increase of obesity, heart disease, cancer, diabities and all other degenerative diseases that is rampant throughout this country.

This is an important topic that everyone must take seriously.  If the cause is improved performance or improved fitness and health, proper hydration with the highest quality of water is the first step to take.  Contact us now and sign up for a free consultation so we can help you achieve your goals.
